I just wanted to share this with you today because it’s something that I actually came to the realisation of today and I think you’re going to find it helpful.
And it’s that whenever I come back west, I always wake up way earlier than normal. When I travel, obviously, everyone gets jet lagged. We just got back from Australia recently. And actually jet lag has not been too bad because it’s just like a 30-hour flight, so it’s pretty easy to do - at some point you have to sleep, right?
So we weren’t actually really jet lagged but I have noticed that we have been waking up one or two hours earlier. And I also get this when I go back to the States. When I go to California, which is like a 12-hour flight from the UK, then I tend to wake up really early there as well. So there’s something about travelling west which makes me wake up earlier.
FINDING A PLACE OF INSPIRATION
But I have just loved having this extra time in the morning. So I woke up at 5 AM this morning completely naturally. And I stayed in bed until 5:30 or so, just checking my phone and doing stuff.
We’re living in outside Beirut right now and I just adore our morning view. So we’re looking now west over the Mediterranean sea. There's the city there not that far background and it’s covered in some fog and mist.
One of my favourite things to do is to sit here in the morning with my coffee and watch this world wake up. Lebanon is a pretty chaotic country. It’s a middle-eastern country - it’s obviously developing. It’s just super busy all the time and a lot of people and a lot of stuff always going on. And they’re also a loud and vivacious culture as well. So they go out on their balcony and talk a lot all day.
But in the mornings it’s super peaceful and super chilled. I love that. So I’ve been coming out here to journal and do my morning routine and having a really slow start to the day and I’ve been starting work sort of, I don’t know, maybe like 8 or sometimes even 9AM. But just being here from 5am gives me that space and time to have such a slower, nicer wake up to the mornings. I feel like it’s the weekend and I can start work at 9AM and I’m super productive all day.
FINDING TIME TO WORK ON YOUR BUSINESS
So if you’re struggling to work some time to work on a business. It’s always really tough to squeeze in time in the morning. It’s tough to find time in the evenings when you’re tired, you have to make dinner, all of it there’s a lot of stuff going on.
And I used to hate early mornings because when I was working in corporate, I was actually working in a bank, I have to be in the office at 7AM. So that meant I have to wake up at 5:30AM and I hated that. I really, really resented it.
I had this big block about early mornings for a long time. So when I started my business, I wouldn’t actually start working until 10AM because I just wanted to sleep properly and wake up at 8AM and chill out. But now, I actually come around to the realisation that getting up early gives you that space in the morning.
ADJUSTING YOUR ROUTINE
If you’re looking for some time, rather than sitting and watching TV until late. If you go to bed early, get up way earlier. If you wake up at 5, 6, you've got two to three hours before you could actually get up and start your day and do the day job and start the responsibilities that we have. So that’s just the realisation that I had for myself now is actually I love early mornings. I think they’re amazing. I’m actually waking up naturally now at this time, just enjoying it. So I’m making sure I go to bed at the right time to be able to sleep enough too.
But it’s one option for you if you’re trying to find time to work on your business. So if you’re doing a Living Rosy programme, if you've got our strategy, then obviously you just need an hour a day to work on your business - 5 hours a week.
So where could you find those 5 hrs per week? Where can you find one hour in your day, even if you can maybe forty-five minutes if you want to do it over 7 days a week. Could you get up a little bit earlier and have this little peacefulness before all the chaos starts of the day?
