Before I started my business, I was so miserable in my job. It was getting tougher and tougher to get up in the morning knowing that another day of unhappiness was waiting for me. 

So when I discovered online information-based businesses and I started my first little ebook and blog, it felt like I finally had a glimmer of hope. 

I really wanted to replace my salary through my business so I wouldn't have to get another job. I wanted to be able to live my life on my own terms and have a financially comfortable life.

The thing is I was only selling a maximum of 10 ebooks, which meant 100$/month. That meant I wasn’t able to quit my job, let alone live life on my own terms.

I was starting to get scared I'd never be able to quit my day job. Every day I felt so trapped.


How I got started in business

One day during this frustrating period, I noticed an email in my inbox from a lady offering free business advice calls. It was a business mentor whose blog I read occasionally, but I had never really investigated what she offered.

I wondered if there was a catch for her to offer free calls, but she seemed legitimate so I ended up going for it anyway. There was no downside, right?

It turned out that this call was life changing. 

On the call, the lady opened up my eyes to the fact that many people actually need personalised help and are willing to pay more to get help.

In other words, you don't need to sell a lot of cheap products. Instead, you can sell a few, more expensive, products. In other words, create a premium service.


Why premium services work for new entrepreneurs

Let me give you an example: wedding planners.

If you need to find a wedding planner online you would be ready to pay at least $4,000 USD for her consulting services.

But if that wedding planner had an ebook, she would need to sell 400 ebooks at 10$ to make the same amount of money.

On the call, this lady suggested I create a live coaching programme and teach people 1:1 about health. 

It benefitted them, because instead of them just flicking through an ebook, with my 1:1 attention they’d be able to really learn and transform. 

And it benefitted me too because I’d need just two or three clients per month to be able to replace my salary and quit my job.

That’s when I realised that the secret to making money online quickly was creating a live service to sell instead of a small product.

It was now crystal clear to me how to replace my salary quickly because I saw I could make my business profitable and get out of my job by focusing my efforts on serving more premium clients.


I started taking action...

So, I joined a coaching certification. Then, using my nutrition and coaching training, I started creating my health coaching programme.

But there was still a problem...

I realised that my coaching certification wasn’t going to teach me how to market, how to find clients, or show me how to convince people that I could help them.

I spent a few months DIY-ing, reading blogs left and right. But I was wasting lots of time trying to learn the basics. And with my full-time job, the last thing I wanted to do was to waste time.

One day, as I was scrolling through my FB newsfeed, an ad popped up about a programme teaching new health coaches how to grow their business. It looked perfect!

But it cost $5,000; and, more importantly, it wasn’t designed to be taken around a full time plus job. After starting it, I realised I would have to quit my job to be able to continue using their strategies.


I had to make a huge decision

That was one of the scariest decisions of my life: take the leap; or give up and stay in my job, accepting this 9-5 nightmare for another 40 years.

Even though I had said I’d never risk my savings for my business, something was calling me to make this happen. 

I handed in my notice.

I thought if I could replace my previous salary through health coaching, I’d be really happy.

And guess what happened?

5 months after starting the programme, I got my first high-end client.

But once I got one client, I got 2 more the next week.

I replaced my previous salary the month after that!

A year in, I made in one month what I used to make net in a YEAR in my previous job!

By 18 months after I’d started the programme, I had a six figure income from my business.

This wasn’t just about money though, it was about me finding myself. I gained so much confidence - I barely recognise the girl who quit her corporate job. 

I found my mission in my life - to help other women get out of their jobs - something I’d have never guessed back when I was in corporate! 

Even more amazing, my husband joined me in the business last year and we now travel and live a freedom life together. That was beyond my wildest dreams when I first started out in business.


Your next step

Now you might be asking yourself. What on earth could I do? I have no existing skills that can help people. But here’s the thing: your idea is NOT that important! You don’t have to have a crazy, unique, innovative idea! All you need is to be able to help people in some way.

The beauty of information-based businesses is that the idea can be changed really quickly. You don't have a shop, a product, employees or a factory behind what you're selling. The day you decided to switch to a new idea, it can be set up in a few days or a couple of weeks.

The key take away from my story is that regardless of what type of business idea I had - health coaching, business mentoring, or anything else I choose to start -the idea is NOT that important.

Your idea can change - as mine did when I moved from health to business.

Your specific qualifications or certifications will not help you become successful in business.

What is important but knowing how to find clients. Your understanding of marketing will make or break any business you choose to set up.

An information business can work for anyone, in any industry, if you commit to learning how to run and grow your business.
